[AC Syndicate] first impressions: mad and maddening (Jacob x Reader OC) 3/?

A/N Jan 2019: Whoops sorry, couldn't avoid it anymore; OC gets a name and I apologize for that, I assume some won't be a fan of the choice. But damn I loved writing this chapter. Got me out of a real emotional slump to be honest. I know it doesn't directly follow the last chapter (there are a few days in between), but I wanted to write it so I did and then I wanted to share it so... I did.

Series Title: first impressions
Chapter: 3/?
Chapter Title: mad and maddening
Pairing: Jacob Frye/Reader OC
Word count: 4907
Rating: T
Story summary: You’d never found violence particularly attractive. But you had to admit… it looked good on him.
start here (brute pt 1), previously (notorious)

He was waiting for you as you entered your mistress’s room. Grinning. “Lizzie.”

You froze for just a moment before quickly stepping in and closing the door behind you, frowning. You tried to keep your voice even, if edged with wariness, a plethora of thoughts suddenly buzzing in your head. “...Mr. Frye.” Why was he here? How did he know your name? What was he-- oh god -- Your heart leapt to your throat with a rush of anxiety, eyes widening before you glared. “You could’ve been caught,” you hissed, stepping forward, glancing around the room as if you might spot something amiss. “I could’ve been anyone!”

How dare he laugh like that. “No you couldn’t have.”

[AC Syndicate] first impressions: notorious (Jacob x Reader OC) 2/?

A/N Jan 2019: This was written considering the alternative POV presented in meek.
A/N: Oh god this fic is all over the place. Not the story, just the process. Posting everything in second person on AO3 and third person on FFnet. All over the place. Always looking for comments, reviews, reactions, thoughts, feedback. After writing the first chapter of this I ended up continuing it, and have had a good time naming each chapter based on... well, y'know, first impressions; the label one protag places on another based on the events of the chapter. I named the series first and then decided on the chapter naming method, but I like it. Anyway...

[AC Syndicate] meek (Jacob x OC) 1/1*

A/N Jan 2019: I really liked writing brute but had a more specific version of the main character in mind. You can find a third person (instead of second person) version of brute over on my FFnet page. Should I change the original on AO3 to be in third person, for the sake of continuity within a series? Let me know.

Also... I unabashedly borrowed the concept of supernatural modesty from His Dark Materials (the witches and how they achieve invisibility).

Title: meek
Chapter: 1/1
Pairing: Jacob Frye x OC
Word count: 2478
Rating: PG, maybe T for referenced violence but not really
Summary: Once more he relied on something besides his eyes, letting his Assassin senses pick out the figure before him. Shifting. Flickering. Fading and cutting in and out of the air itself: fascinating for how forcefully uninteresting it wanted to be. [*A reverse POV version of brute with a specified OC.]

He’d always assumed Evie was the only one who could do that. How, he wasn’t quite sure, but he wasn’t entirely concerned with it either; it was that same instinct he had - that George had, that their father had had. It was part of being an Assassin. Jacob had an innate ability to aim under pressure, his sister could just… disappear. He’d never seen anyone else do anything like it. Or not-seen it, as the case may be.

The first time he saw her do it, he wasn’t even entirely sure that that was what was happening.

wow

So I posted my AC Syndicate fic to AO3 like two days ago and it's already gotten as many comments, almost as many hits, and more than half the kudos of my next most recent wip, which has been up over a month.

I have so many mixed feelings. Like, obviously, I love the close-knit (read:ten person) emsider ship, but it's really nice to get comments from people who I don't talk to all day anyway, y'know? Plus, well... I mean, I'm a self-centered asshole who likes being told my work is good, so that's always nice. ><

101 hours of Frye-filled goodness

So I'm sitting at 92% synced in AC Syndicate. All that's left is the missions I haven't felt like doing (races, escorting cargo, a few more hijack missions) and some helix glitches left to collect (also like five or six chests). I reeeeally don't want to race -- as much as I love driving irl I am BAD at it in games (I guess I did get a little better once I had access to the better carriages and some practice, but still). But I want to get 100%!

Also can't figure out how to access my DLC. -.-
And I know playing the Jack the Ripper DLC is gonna make me sad. ><

the great migration is complete!

The goddamn fic migration is done! I think? I still need to reread to tag themes more accurately, I think. And maybe fix ratings? I dunno. I'll figure it out eventually. And then I need to get back to actually writing.

yikes

I gotta feel bad for anyone who subscribed to me right as I made this blog, cause right now I'm just posting e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g I wrote this whole year, and that's a lot. Sorry. (I joined like three fandoms this year, okay? A lot happened, and a lot of writing was done.*)

On the plus side, if you like my ships and you haven't read my stuff before, you're being offered a brand-new buffet. For those of you who have already read my stuff, though: I apologize. You could always re-read? XD

*admittedly, most of the writing was done for the first fandom I joined this year; my first new fandom in a few years

my problem with organization...

If you've seen my AO3 tags, you know I can get weird about organization. Or if you know about my fc sideblog. Or my spreadsheet from the year of 365 movies.

Basically, I'm trying to decide how to organize tags on this blog, and how to deal with one shots vs. chaptered works -- if I should only tag the first chapter of longer works, if i should tag characters in the parts they appear in or just the overall work, if every chapter should get its own tags or if all subsequent chapters should just be tagged with project:x or whatever.

Right now I have the following for organization:
!fic
!i wrote this
char:____
ship:____
fandom:[media type]:[name]
theme:____
z:wip
z:completed
z:from the archives (for work that was originally posted a while ago or hasn't been continued for whatever reason)
unrelated (for non-works)

Should I make a [*start here] tag for first chapters? A [*one shot] tag for one shots? Or [1/1]? Interested in opinions if anyone has any to offer.

[AC Syndicate] Jacob x Reader fic pt 2

A/N Dec 2018: Anyway, here’s the rest of what I’ve got so far on the Jacob/Reader ficlet. This probably won’t be the last of it, but it does wrap up cleanly for something resembling a chapter. And I’m happy with it, so I figured I’d share. ^^ Also, have I mentioned how much I love this art by @kingsdarga? Because it may have contributed to my enjoyment writing this. Cross-posted on Tumblr.

Title: N/A (in other words, I have no clue)
Chapter: 2/?
Pairing: Jacob Frye x Reader
Word count: 3356
Rating: T for canon-typical violence
Summary: You’d never found violence particularly attractive. But you had to admit… it looked good on him. [fight club!Jacob]
start here (1/?)

Previously: And that was how you ended up, about 75% willing and 80% tipsy, giggling arm in arm with Emma as the three of you made your way to the foundry. You held her arm a bit too tight, eyes a bit too wide, skin jittering as alcohol twisted your fear to adrenaline. William knew a fellow, supposedly, who fought regularly in the ring at this particular fight club, and he promised it was a sight to behold. He’d laughed, claiming your eyes had gone the size of saucers upon hearing of the primary draw of such events: last man standing.

It was grotesque in a sort of fascinating way, where you didn’t want to watch and yet you couldn’t look away. It was disgusting, and so often brutish, but god there was something exhilarating about it.

the big transfer...

FANDOM IN 2018
So I guess in reality I'm basically just copying over all my 'my writing' posts from Tumblr, but as I'm doing that I'm rereading some of the stuff I wrote this year and... like... I'm really happy with it. ^.^

I still love the first stuff I wrote for emsider in March when I discovered what a tiny little rarepair ship we are. I'm a bit less happy with my newest stuff, just cause I've never done second person before and it's still weird to me. Looking through my posts as well, I remember about that kidsider all grown up AU I wanted to write, and that I wanted to do some FEELINGS fic for Alex/Jonas (shhh don't judge me). I should also finish 6-2 for that emsider fae AU as well.

RP IN 2018

Also looking through my google docs for the year -- I came up with so many characters for goodreads RPs that never got air time. I was really proud of my work on them and kinda want to share, but they're so specific to the setting they were made for it seems a little off? And then it would basically just be their profiles since any threads I made with them idk if I should share without the permission of the people I threaded with. But also like... I miss some of those kiddos. I never got to play a bunch of them. And I didn't get to follow through on plans for most because the boards died out so quick (one of the reasons I don't really do goodreads RP anymore, things are abandoned really quickly and awesome ideas never get to be followed through on). But I would totally write those OCs again.

But also, I'm not an artist. So often my OCs are just... yknow... normal pb/fc people with interesting (I hope) stories attached. So it feels like a weird thing to share, even if I love the characters I create.

I'm kinda tempted to look for a RP group here on dreamwidth but ffff idk bro. I'm used to multi-para novella-style rp, can't do HTML to save my life, and am coming from invisionfree/proboards games of the late 2000s. I have never used LiveJournal or dreamwidth before, and while I love RP I hate to say it but I'm probably a bit of a snob. =/ But my poor depressed phoenix baby! And all the other deity kiddos I made for that group! I was so disappointed it died, I had some Big Plans. =[

[AC Syndicate] Jacob x Reader fic pt 1

A/N Dec 2018: Welcome to the first part of my first reader-insert fic (oh god just tell me if I should switch it to third, that’s very doable, this is all new to me). Never written second person before, never written for the AC Syndicate fandom (or the AC fandom at large) before. So... righto then. Enjoy some (not quite, but soon to be) Jacob/Reader fic. Cross-posted on Tumblr.

Title: N/A (in other words, I have no clue)
Chapter: 1/?
Pairing: Jacob Frye x Reader
Word count: 2153
Rating: PG -- a bit of bad language, but nothing more
Summary: You’d never found violence particularly attractive. But you had to admit… it looked good on him. [mostly applies to the second part, with this being the events leading up to it]
next part (2/?)

You understood the appeal, of course. This day and age? With gangs constantly battling for territory, fights breaking out all over the city, and a frankly alarming amount of dead bodies being stumbled over in the streets? It was no wonder you’d been advised by more than one friend to find some strapping young lad to protect you. You weren’t particularly fond of the implication that you couldn’t protect yourself, but then again, your usual tactic was to run and/or hide and pray to god that no one found you interesting enough to target.

[Dishonored: fae AU] Iron & Gold: 6. (emsider) 1/?*

A/N Nov 2018: So. Chapter 6 (7 on AO3) is going to have a lot of technical stuff. I’m a sucker for the imagery of magic control so... it may be wordy and potentially clunky... Though that’s mostly 6-2. A little in this section too, though, so if you’ve got feedback on if/how to clean it up and make it more concise, lemme know. Always looking for comments. ^^  Elsewhere: AO3, FFnet, ko-fi (for 6-2 preview).

Story Title: Iron & Gold
Chapter Title: 6 (as of yet untitled)
Chapter Part:
1/?
Story Part: 18/?
Pairing: Emily/Outsider (emsider)
Word count: 1798
Rating: T
Summary: Ever since she was a child Emily had been cautioned: beware the fae. She’d heard the typical warnings – faerie rings, wishing wells, mysterious lights in the darkness. But they were just cautionary tales... [A Dishonored fae AU]
start here (prelude), previously (5-3), next part (6-2)

“The key to resisting enchantment is an unwavering surety in one’s own self.”

They’d paused mid-afternoon by a stream Emily had never been aware of before. Then again, they’d been traveling far from any path she’d known, the forest parting to let them pass. While she’d taken a moment to rest, the Outsider had slipped silently into the trees, melting down to shadow again, and returned a few minutes later with an update about the witches’ progress in their search. Satisfied that they had a substantial lead, with the witches searching west instead of east, he’d initiated her first lesson.

“Doubt is both necessary and disastrous. You cannot doubt the tenets of your will, but you must doubt what you are being asked to do.”

[Dishonored: fae AU] Iron & Gold: 5. (emsider) 3/3*

The further they moved into the forest, the thicker the canopy became, the woods growing dark around them. “When they-” Emily choked off. “...When I was in the palace…” She tried to find the right words to express what she’d observed among the ranks of the witches. “...She’s working with the fae,” she managed finally.

“Not all of them.”

She rolled her eyes. Well obviously not all of them.

They went about their business separately, silently, and Emily realized they were getting a much later start than she’d expected. When she’d tucked in for the night she thought she would be lucky to get a few hours of sleep and wake at dawn, but by the time they mounted up it was nearly noon. The realization hit her with a quick jolt of panic as they worked their way deeper into the woods, the horses seemingly briefed on their route beforehand, and she chided herself for not thinking of it sooner. Then again, she’d never been on the run before. If she’d been in Delilah’s place there would’ve been scouts out all night with dogs, seeking out the escaped captive. By noon the next day they would’ve searched well past the point in the forest where the queen now rode.

[Dishonored: fae AU] Iron & Gold: 5. (emsider) 1/3*

A/N Nov 2018: Just another quick reminder that this is a WIP in the truest sense of the word. I am by no means an expert on... well, anything. So some bits and pieces are lacking in research, and I may one day (one distant day) go through and edit for accuracy. Only letting you know this because in case you notice stuff like 'huh that's a bit weird' about things I have no idea about, I can assure you that I am probably wrong and one day I'll figure that out (hopefully).
A/N Nov 2018: In case you missed it, this whole project is being posted un-serialized (in full chapters)
over on AO3 under the title Iron and Gold. But it takes me longer to write full chapters than the little sections, and I like sharing the bits I am done with. If you want to check out my other work: AO3, FFnet, and a preview for the next section on ko-fi.

Emily woke to aching limbs, a burn in her chest and throat, and a gnawing hollowness in her stomach that nauseated her the second she tried to move. She barely got her chest over the crest of the log she slept beside before she was sick. If Delilah truly was draining her, she didn’t find it hard to believe. Hands splayed and trembling she let her chin rest on the mossy bark, eyes closed but leaking tears for all her exertion. If she’d had the energy, she might be embarrassed at her retching, but she simply didn’t.

[Dishonored: fae AU] Iron & Gold: 4. Flight (emsider) 3/3*

A/N Nov 2018: Oh wow. I guess I’m all caught up posting the faeU. Working on 5-1/5-2 now, posting the whole project (in full chapters) over on AO3, as well... but in case anyone is trying to keep up with things, I thought I’d keep sharing. This section contains something akin to a panic attack, and a bit of distorted thought processes and teensy bit of comforting around trauma. Reader discretion is advised. Also; shifter! AO3, FFnet, and over on ko-fi, there’s a bit of 5-1.

Story Title: Iron & Gold

Her supplies weren’t exactly ideal, grabbed rather hastily in her escape, but Emily made do. She could focus on future plans in the morning - where she was going, how she’d feed herself, defend herself. Morning was only a few hours away, if she woke at the crack of dawn. She needed rest and she needed to stay warm as autumn shifted to its second half. With the dry chill in the air she hadn’t bothered using her quickly waning energy for building a full shelter, instead setting up a makeshift bedroll between log and fire, where she now lay staring at the leaves that blocked her view of the sky.

Next time - if there ever was a next time - she had a plan. Human blood had salt. She may not always have a weapon, but if they were trying to feed her she had her teeth. She’d bite herself, rip her lips or tongue open if she had to, counteract any attempt to wrest her agency away. She would never be made so mindless. Never again.

Emily balanced a knife - a new one, one taken from the barracks along with sword, crossbow, and longbow - on her finger, testing her own reflexes. She couldn’t keep it upright for long, her limbs still shaky, but the blade thudded into the dirt instead of her foot.
