A/N Jan 2019: Whoops sorry, couldn't avoid it anymore; OC gets a name and I apologize for that, I assume some won't be a fan of the choice. But damn I loved writing this chapter. Got me out of a real emotional slump to be honest. I know it doesn't directly follow the last chapter (there are a few days in between), but I wanted to write it so I did and then I wanted to share it so... I did.

Series Title: first impressions
Chapter: 3/?
Chapter Title: mad and maddening
Pairing: Jacob Frye/Reader OC
Word count: 4907
Rating: T
Story summary: You’d never found violence particularly attractive. But you had to admit… it looked good on him.
start here (brute pt 1), previously (notorious)

He was waiting for you as you entered your mistress’s room. Grinning. “Lizzie.”

You froze for just a moment before quickly stepping in and closing the door behind you, frowning. You tried to keep your voice even, if edged with wariness, a plethora of thoughts suddenly buzzing in your head. “...Mr. Frye.” Why was he here? How did he know your name? What was he-- oh god -- Your heart leapt to your throat with a rush of anxiety, eyes widening before you glared. “You could’ve been caught,” you hissed, stepping forward, glancing around the room as if you might spot something amiss. “I could’ve been anyone!”

How dare he laugh like that. “No you couldn’t have.”

A/N Nov 2018: So. Chapter 6 (7 on AO3) is going to have a lot of technical stuff. I’m a sucker for the imagery of magic control so... it may be wordy and potentially clunky... Though that’s mostly 6-2. A little in this section too, though, so if you’ve got feedback on if/how to clean it up and make it more concise, lemme know. Always looking for comments. ^^  Elsewhere: AO3, FFnet, ko-fi (for 6-2 preview).

Story Title: Iron & Gold
Chapter Title: 6 (as of yet untitled)
Chapter Part:
1/?
Story Part: 18/?
Pairing: Emily/Outsider (emsider)
Word count: 1798
Rating: T
Summary: Ever since she was a child Emily had been cautioned: beware the fae. She’d heard the typical warnings – faerie rings, wishing wells, mysterious lights in the darkness. But they were just cautionary tales... [A Dishonored fae AU]
start here (prelude), previously (5-3), next part (6-2)

“The key to resisting enchantment is an unwavering surety in one’s own self.”

They’d paused mid-afternoon by a stream Emily had never been aware of before. Then again, they’d been traveling far from any path she’d known, the forest parting to let them pass. While she’d taken a moment to rest, the Outsider had slipped silently into the trees, melting down to shadow again, and returned a few minutes later with an update about the witches’ progress in their search. Satisfied that they had a substantial lead, with the witches searching west instead of east, he’d initiated her first lesson.

“Doubt is both necessary and disastrous. You cannot doubt the tenets of your will, but you must doubt what you are being asked to do.”

A/N Oct 2018: Elsewhere: AO3, FFnet, and the preview on ko-fi for the next section. It seems that the “2″ section of the fae au is a bit more segmented than 1. But - of course - I’m a sucker for drawing out anything before a kiss. Speaking of kisses...

Story Title: Iron & Gold
Chapter Title: An Offer
Chapter Part:
4/4
Story Part: 8/?
Pairing: Emily/Outsider (emsider)
Word count: 1673
Rating: T

start here (prelude), previously (2-3), next part (3-1)

Emily didn’t notice it at first. She assumed the leaves that brushed her slippered feet were just more of the forest floor, overgrown with roots and weeds as it was. It was only when she tried to move toward him that she realized her feet were tangled in ivy. She blinked at them in confusion, and saw them continuing a slow weaving pattern, trapping her there. Startled, she looked to the faerie. “Did you-” She fell silent as he rested his finger on her lips. Not a single word came to her tongue as she watched in dawning awe at the subtle changes taking place.

“...A kiss?” It was too simple, too easy. And such an undeniably fae price. Yet still, Emily wasn’t sure it was something she’d want to give up. Because it would be, as he pointed out-

“Your first kiss.”

He never spoke, she observed distantly as they walked just slightly faster than meandering, her escort seeming to know exactly where he was going. His face was expressive, smile small and disconcertingly polite, but he made no attempt to speak a word. She couldn’t drag her eyes away from him. The moon turned his hair a rich blue black even as it bleached every creamy fold and glittering flower of her dress white. Her breath was calmer than it probably should have been, watching how his fingers just barely supported her hand, a delicate whisper of skin on skin that felt effervescent.

A/N Aug 2018: Welp, this ends the ficlet. ...I’ll probably write a follow-up, cause my smutty heart has not been satisfied, as much as this chapter went ahead and shifted the story to a weak M rating. Feel free to hmu on AO3, FFnet, or buy me a ko-fi.

Title: The Rhyme of the Rosewater Hag

Word count: 1258
Rating: M
Summary: “That’s a lie.” // “May the Outsider claim my lying tongue if it is.”
start here (1/3), previously (2/3)

Oaths? What oaths? Something inside her was twisting and roiling in her gut, and she could barely think, let alone remember making an oath. Multiple oaths?

“I don’t…” Her voice came out weaker than she’d wanted, and she hurriedly cleared her throat. But before she could speak again-

“You lied, empress.”

A/N Aug 2018: So I kept writing. And I’m still working on it, on page 13 now... It’s devolved. Gotten a bit... smutty. As expected, I suppose. Regardless, here’s some more. Feel free to find me on AO3, FFnet, or buy me a ko-fi.

“Your little friend was right, you know;”

She gasped in surprise, and immediately cursed herself, expecting to choke on icy water, but whatever she was breathing-

“The Hag isn’t someone to trifle with.”

A/N Mar 2018: a ficlet in two parts: 1st angst, 2nd fluff (/smut). If you enjoyed it, feel free to check out my ko-fi ^^

Title: Roving Feet
Chapter: 2/2
Pairing: Emily/Outsider (emsider)
Word count: 3143
Rating: T, bordering on M -- fade to black
Summary: “Come on in, Empress.” His voice was even, relaxed, and when she blinked into dark vision she saw him around the corner of the window, facing inward, as though waiting for her to appear. So she did.
start here (1/2)

She didn’t visit him for a long time after that. She covered her fear with anger. He was manipulating her. She shouldn’t feel bad for the man, he didn’t want her pity -- but maybe he wanted her anger. Was that what he wanted? For her to be mad at him? He seemed to teem with some surging writhing something and parsing out just what that was was beyond her. She didn’t have the energy to invest.

The Outsider became just another subject she was briefed on. How his health was, plans for integrating him into society. He would need a name.

“Will we give him a title?”

Corvo seemed surprised at her question. “I… hadn’t considered it.”

She avoided her father’s eyes, keeping her tone blasé and her eyes glued to the papers she perused. “It seems he would be useful to have on hand in case of any… Void-related occurrences.”

Her father’s body stilled and his eyes narrowed. Maybe she was a little too eager. “...Void-related occurrences,” he repeated, just barely holding back his incredulity.

A/N Mar 2018: It’s another thing! This time post-DOTO. If you’d like to, buy me a ko-fi.

Title: scandal
Chapter: 1/1
Pairing: Emily/Outsider [emsider]
Word count: 3955
Rating: T
Summary: “If I asked you to-” The confident words died on her tongue as she met his gaze again. His pale, knowing, fiery gaze. She was breathless. // “You know I would.”

“Yes, thank you, that’s - yes, that’s-” Emily found her irritation growing as the gentleman before her bobbed his bow again and again, but she kept her face placid. “Yes, Lord Durham, that’s very-” again, he bowed, “-very good. I wish you the best of luck with your endeavors, truly. Now, if you don’t mind-” She side-stepped the pinch-faced man who had been rambling on about some new projects he’d be able to move forward thanks to her most recent negotiations of trade agreements and… She sighed. It didn’t matter. Just the thought of policy meetings and paperwork made her legs heavy.

“Why do you let these people close to me?” Her voice was low as she directed the dry comment to her father, who had quickly fallen in step with her when she’d left her last conversation. “I swear, there’s some maniac pulling the strings who wishes to bore me to death. Aren’t you supposed to be Royally Protecting me?”

She just barely spotted Corvo’s crooked smile out of the corner of her eye as he ducked his head. “And I am, Your Majesty. Even if you don’t believe it.”
